[ARCHIVED] Grease Trap Program Certification

Building Application

Chapter 151-11 of Port Chester Village Code identifies a requirement that all commercial, industrial, religious, hotel, and institutional uses that produce, fats, oils, and grease shall obtain an annual certificate of compliance for legal discharge.

As many are aware, grease traps are vital in helping keep our local environment clean and our sanitary sewer system and other infrastructure free from such material that can clog or cause for backups.

Our commercial businesses in town, like our restaurants and supermarkets, need to help fight against illegal discharge and ensure that their operation processes and their proprietary infrastructure is in proper working order. More so, however, our businesses need to certify that they are being used! Forcing fats, oils, and grease down sink drains and floor drains that do not feed into a grease interceptor affects the health and well-being of neighbors and residents.

Beginning today, the village staff will start to proactively visit local businesses and provide hard copies of the Plumbing System Certification Application for Grease Traps, Interceptors, and Separators to those businesses who have yet to certify.

More information on the application process, the adopted law, and enforcement can be found here.
